I don't know how gateway is about giving out information about their systems but emachines which is owned by gateway will give no help once it's out of warranty. I have a Dell that I upgraded the memory from 512 to 1 gig of 400mhz memory. Dell has the BIOS locked so it only runs at 266mhz. I can only get the 400mhz memory to run if I upgrade the 2.7 celeron cpu to a pentium 4 cpu which in my case newegg shows this cpu the most costly. Thats my problem with it. If you can get any information on who made the motherboard, I'd also look into what type of memory you can upgrade to. I noticed that on one of the boards I'm looking at to buy I can upgrade the memory so that it runs faster and with the duel channel memory it will help. You still may want to contact gateway to see if they will tell you what cpu options you have, also try and contact one of the senior members and get their advise. I have done this in the past and it's helped me. Hope I helped. danmax

Try downloading CPU-Z from HERE. Hopefully this will give you the information on your motherboard and such.
