    Hi there,
my cpu runs at 100 percent alot of the time when i open internet explorer or some other program. iv done cntrl - alt - del & iv checked the system idle thing & i know thats normal for it to be high, but other than that nothing is running high.
but iv noticed inside my pc i dnt seem to have a graphics card.
just a wireless card & a lan card.
do i need a graphics card or is it something else?
thanks for any help given :)

you do have a graphics card as it is built into the motherboard. no graphics card means you would not be able to see anyrthing on the screen. what is the specs on your pc such as ram(used & free), cpu speed & hard drive capacity(used & free)?

When I had a similar problem, I traced it to the onboard audio. Installing a PCI audio card fix my problem. That might be something to check if you ruled everything else out.

i think it might be my crap hard drive. iv only got a 40gb hhd & i can imagen the buffer bein really low.
if i upgrade toa 500gb hhd with a 16mb buffer will this help the pc run smoother?
    thanks

When you open task manager and goto the "processes" tab, did you check the box next to "Show Processes from all users"?

because you still have over 1/2 your drive empty then that is not causing 100% cpu issue. do as killer suggests as that is most likely what is causing the problem(s). is the connector itself for the cardreader a single multi-pin connector or multi single pin connectors? chech in the bios & disable usb boot drive or something like that.

oh right ok, yep i done that, (show processes from all users) but im the only user on this pc, theres no other users. well its a sigle black plug with 9-pin holes 1 bein the 'dead pin', il try what u said & disable usb boot drive. il report back if it works or not
thanks ddp & killerbug for helping me with this :)

does it show in processes what is using most of the cpu? did your card reader come with driver cd?

well system idle was the highest but iv heard thats normal the only other thing running high was internet explorer.
right i disabled the usb boot in bios, the pc booted up but usb's wernt wworking after lol unless i disabled the wrong 1 but i couldnt see anything else relating ot the usb in bios.
yh i got a cd but there wasnt any drivers on it, just the manual & the web address, the disk reader works when i plug it in when windows is loaded up, its just when i restart the pc it hangs at the memory check, cant go into bios or skip the check. it just freezes.

no, leave it alone. as it appears you have onboard video then some of your ram is being used for that but that is alright.
