Hello all, I am using cucusoft to convert from avi to dvd. When the conversion is done, there are lots of white blocks that appear during playback. Can someone tell me why this is, wether it is a bitrate or quality setting problem. Thanks for any help given.
Well this Could be From a Lot of Things...If what you are Describeing are "Macro-Blocks" then it could be from Bad quality encodeing (Cucusoft is Not known as being a High quality encoder) or from Encodeing at too low of a Bitrate... It could also be From Resizeing the Resolution too much...If your Source File has a low resolution and you encode it to Standard DVD Resolution the Resizeing will destroy the Quality and Introduce Artifacts Like Blocks and all Flaws will become more appearant.... If your AVI file is a Good Quality file but it is a Low Resolution AVI File then you could expect considerably better quality and a smaller File size if you instead encoded your AVI file to one of the Other Valid DVD Resolutions Like 352x480 or 352x240... With these Lower resolutions your Low resolution AVI file will not have to be resized as Much so it doesn"t loose quality from Resizeing and at a Lower resolution you don"t need nearly as Much Bitrate to encode the Video to a Good Quality so the File size is smaller which means you can Fit more Video on a DVD..... When useing the 352x480 resolution and a Bitrate of about 2000kbs you can Fit over 4.5 Hours of Better than SVCD Quality Video on a Single DVD-R... When useing the 352x240 Resolution and a Bitrate of about 1500kbs you can fit over 6 Hours of Better than VCD Quality Video on a Single DVD-R..... Also if you want to use a Better quality Mpeg-2/DVD encoder you might want to look into something like the "MainConcept Encoder" or even "Tmpgenc" but with these programs you will also need to use a DVD authoring program to put the encoded Mpeg-2 files on to DVD... Cheers
