RAM is supposed to have a gap in so that you can't slot it in the wrong way around. How can you only slot it in "half way" last time you used it?

Is there any output concerning the errors from this testing kit you used? It's possible that the RAM isn't compatible with the motherboard of the old computer. We could do with some more information really..

moved to correct forum as not an all other topics issue.

ripper, he didn't push the ram all the way in on both ends as i've done that a few times.

pete, gold pad can be fixed by replacing the damaged pad with a new one then epoxy & solder it in place. did that when working at celestica working on boards for sun microsystems & cisco systems.

Fair enough, I didn't realise that could/would cause a hardware issue on the RAM itself. I personally can't help, I would presume it is quite specialist though.

when i worked at celestica, we used dead/scrapped boards to practice on & to use parts of to fix a working board. we carefully peel off & cut the trace we wanted to use & replace.
