I've had my modded xbox for a while and it has been acting up for a few months now. At first it would turn itself off if it took the slightest nudge or often even just by random, I figured something must not be connected right and when the xbox was nudged or anything it would disconnect and the xbox would shut itself off(although I dont know exactly what it is thats causing this) Usually the best way ive found to get it working is by thumping the top of the case with an open palm, this seems to be the only way to get the thing working, and it did work for a long time so i was content. Ofcourse that couldnt last forever because now the screen will shake around whenever i turn it on, as well as freeze. Im guessing it has something to do with the laser alignment so the DVD rom must have to be replaced. Im still not totally sure so im a bit hesitant to crack open the Xbox and start messing around with it, Ive had to do it once to replace the fan. Im not about to get into searching for help on Google again so im hoping I can finally get some answers, does anyone know what is wrong with my xbox? and if it can still be fixed? I am a beginner at this so im reluctant to take my xbox to soemone to have it repaired seeing as they tend to grossly rip me off.
Pop it open again, cos the only things your gonna need to take out are the two drives and they are easy , then check all conectors to power supply and motherboard, make sure you have no loose wires or dry soldier joints. Bar them it might just have had its day. (especially after the beatings. lol) GOOD LUCK! let me know how you get on.
its still a bit confusing, when i open it up it just looks like wires and circuits to me, im not entirely sure what im supposed to be looking at. would ya be able to forward me somewhere with some pictures and info on whats what? also i have an old DVD player lying around, would I be able to take the drive out of that and replace the one in my xbox?
Chunkhead is right you an only use xbox drives cos of the plug config'n as for the board inside the largest board is the mother and next to it is your power supply board, check the biggest plug with the most wires going from the mother to power supply.
