After using Dazzle DVC80 USB (Pinnacle) i discovered the max width and height of capture is 352-240 (ish) and when a VCD or MPG is created, its shown full screen. It looks not to amazing, blurred a bit, but okay for what it is.
Can the MPG be enlarge using a different method to retain as much res quality as poss? or is that the best that can be acheived full screen???

    thanks peeps.

You are Sh*t out of Luck ,That is your Max capture resolution and you are Stuck with it, You should have asked someone before you Bought this Crappy Capture device as anyone could have told you that this is a Really Bad capture Device and you could have gotten a PCI Capture card that Captures Full resolution for about the same price..If you still can I would take it back and get something, anything that doesn"t use a USB 1.1 Interface Cuz it does not have enough Bandwidth to Fransfer full resolution video..I have seen PCI capture cards on Ebay for as cheap as $25 that would capture in Full resolution and therefore over 400% the quality and resolution as the dvc-80.....

I am using a laptop, so i cant use internal capture devices (like a TV Card) so what are my options to capture full screen resolution? Im no wizz at computing, but can an external capture device be connected other than using USB connection???

There is always firewire, which if your laptop doesn't support you can get a PC-card converter. Though unless it's a very modern laptop it's quite likely that it really won't have enough horsepower for sustained DVD quality capture. What spec is your laptop?

Well the Best Quality device would be something like the Canopus ADVC-100 which is a Analogue digital converter that compresses the Signal to DV AVI useing a Hardware DV Encoder ,The Quality is Exceptional and it is a Firewire Device ,But 30 GB is not enough Disk Space because a 2 Hour movie in DV Format will be close to 30gb, so if you weren"t going to get a second drive then you would need something that does High quality Mpeg2 Compression through USB or Firewire Like the Canopus MpegPro but it is allmost twice as expensive as an ADVC-100 at about $450 were the ADVC-100 is about $250 ,There is also a ADVC-55 which is about $200 ,These devices are high Quality devices and the Might cost a Little more than some other devices that claim to do the same thing but they Produce much higher Quality than comparable Products...You get info on these Devices here :
    MpegPro EMR

    ADVC-100

I was looking at the Pinnacle Moviebox USB, and it mentions capture at 720-560 in a certain format (MPEG2 or similar). Would this be worth buying instead of my Dazzle DVC80??
I am not aiming at 2 hour recordings, more 30min bits and peices (which i can compress later and paste clips together if need be)This helps me save memory.

I am fairly happy with Dazzle DVC80 (concidering it was only £39.99) but i do really need better quality, as it is noticably poorer than the original.

Any tips on this sorta thing??

    >I was looking at the Pinnacle Moviebox USB...

I have been using the Pinnacle USB Moviebox for several months and have had mixed results. I've had some successes and a lot of troubles with jumpy video it delivers. It was only this morning that I discovered that I can use my Sony MiniDV camcorder as a converter box to feed analog video into the computer's firewire port. It works great!
