It's no problem between the R4 team and dealextreme, other sites are running low on stock of the R4 now too, it's just that dealextreme keeps alot less stock than anyone else so they ran out quickly.

I think dealextreme were forced by the R4 team to raise their prices a while back though.

Rumor has it that the R4 factories are shut down. The reasons vary from source to source, but some chinese forums discuss the issue and some people claim to have known about this before july. It could be because of a shortage of parts, and it could be any of various legal/personal reasons.

In any case, some USA traders do have the R4 in stock and my advice is to buy it or the M3S while you still can. While I do believe that the R4 problems are because of parts shortage, nobody can say for sure. Read Kyle's comments on how the R4 manufacturers operated, and you'll see what I mean.

DX tend to 'run on empty' with fast moving products, often selling more than they have and then filling the existing orders with fresh stock. They get their share of irate customers when something like this happens.

One thing is for sure though, that if the R4 factories are indeed shut down, there will be no updates from the R4 team and we dont know yet if the M3 team has the software/knowledge/specs to turn out updates. It would be a shame if the card lost out because the manufacturer stopped supporting it with software.

The english R4 site and forums have been down for more than two weeks now and I know that its not a billing issue. They either got hacked, or deliberately deleted files, and are not interested in putting it back online.

PS: They did release/leak a beta version of an updated chinese kernel (testing download play compatibility) on the 28th, so we just cant be sure which way they're headed.

chinese forum with updated kernel FOR CHINESE R4 ONLY

just wanted to know all was well between the r4ds team and dealextreme , i ordered my r4ds from them and it arrived in about 7 days which i was pleased about ( i was expecting it to be longer from hong kong ).

now i need a few more r4ds and was hopeing they would be back in stock soon as for me they was the cheapest place to buy from .

just have to wait for them to be back in stock im in no hurry .

as mr_hanky said, the problem is not with dealextreme alone. their main distributors in HK (twin star) are facing the same shortage. DX has been under fire from R4 and its distributors for 'underpricing' it, but otherwise have no issues with R4 people.

Prepare yourself for a very long process.
