Hey guys, I'm thinking about making a decent gaming rig that I can hook up to my TV and play modern games on. I probably won't be playing Crysis so I just need something that will run most modern games well. Here is what I have so far. Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128395 GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814129113 Mem: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231166 CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103680 PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341010 So I don't really know how important a good motherboard is for gaming. I know I need the right slots for graphics cards and such, but I don't know much else about mobo's. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.
also, I'm hoping for under $600 these parts combined. basically just looking for the most bang for my buck.
Looks good, but personally i like Crosair PSUs. Dont forget a case, and hard drive. Oh and a DVD burner. HDD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152185 $80 DVD Burner http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106289 $30 Case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129042 $55 Total=$642 You could drop dwon to a 500 or 750 GB if thats really to far out of budget.
It looks good. I have the radeon 4670 and it plays every modern game I throw at it and it's a lower level card than the 4870. You will definitely have very good performance with the 4870 even on a game similar to crysis. One thing that I overlook on my phenom 9750 was the cpu cooling fan. At full load it was hitting 70 celcius with the normal fan I had on it. No overclocking on my part. I bought an artic 64 (30.00) and that brought the temperature down to 45 celcius at full load idles at 32 celcius. That's just something to look at especially on a gamming maching. http://www.frostytech.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1895
Mobo: 9/10 GPU: 8/10 - Great card, but suspect quality board and cooler RAM: 9/10 CPU: 10/10 PSU: 8/10 Nothing majorly wrong here. Corsair PSUs are better than the OCZ, but that is a (the only) quality OCZ unit. Playing it safe with the HDD, I'd recommend this over the Samsung: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136284 Remember to buy extra case fans for the Antec Three Hundred. The 4870 is more than double the performance of the 4670, closer to 2.3-2.4x. Jony: the Phenom 9750 is a terrible CPU. The X2 550 is not, it'll be fine, unlike the Phenom it's all performance and little heat - not all heat and no performance
