I have some AVI's that seem to be of lower quality probably from high compression. Whats a good program to deCompress them and ReCompress them back at a lower compression ratio for a better quality AVI, or is the quality already lost? Also what can I use to tell if an AVI is PAL or NTSC and what program can convert between the two? Thanks all!
I use dvdflick to decompress and dvdfab platinum to compress. But you can not improve the quality, its gone. You can make it worse though. LOL
What? Hmm...you lost me. Use DVD Flick to decompress-to what?! Make a DVD compilation? And then use DVDFab Platinum to compress it again to an AVI or something? Why?!!If that is your process, you just butchered the hell out of that AVI, and whatever quality it had, is gone. Your AVI's quality cannot be improved by "recompressing". Each time you do that, you lose quality. Period. If you have a large AVI for example and would like to shrink it I would use Avi Recomp. To tell if it is Pal/NTSC you can load the video in GSpot.
I guess i wasn't clear enough, on what i wrote. I didn't mean that i decompress and compress the same files. He asked what to use to decompress to dvd i assumed. and he asked what programs to use when compressing. iI just told him the 2 programs that would do each. I did not mean that you decompress and then compress the same files. I hope this clears that up ,, sorry if i confused you. i also told him the quality can not be improved
Okay, that makes muuch more sense:~)! Sorry for my misunderstanding! And yes, DVD Flick would be my choice too! never used DVDFab Platinum. If I make an AVI/mpeg4 I use FairUse Wizard or Nero Recode. However, DVDFab Platinum is a great tool, with lots of option.
@ cyprusrom I'm glad i was able to straighten that up, I would hate to lead someone in the wrong direction. Thanks for pointing it out to me.
Not many people say "I decompress" with DVD Flick, instead would say "I convert", so I guess that's how I got confused:~)!
