    Error message when you try to update Windows Defender on a Windows Vista-based computer: "Error found: Code 0x80240029"

    SYMPTOMS
    When you try to update Microsoft Windows Defender on a Windows Vista-based computer, you receive an error message that resembles the following:

    CAUSE
    This problem occurs if the SoftwareDistribution folder is corrupted.

    RESOLUTION
    To resolve this problem, follow these steps:1. Start the computer in safe mode. To do this, follow these steps:a. Restart the computer.
    b. Press the F8 key as the computer restarts.

    Note You have to press the F8 key before the Windows Vista progress indicator appears.
    c. When the Advanced Boot Options menu appears, use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode option, and then press ENTER.

    2. Rename the SoftwareDistribution folder. To do this, follow these steps:a. Click Start, type %windir% in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

    Note In this step, %windir% represents the path of the Windows system folder. Typically, C:\Windows is the path of the Windows system folder.
    b. Locate the SoftwareDistribution folder.
    c. Right-click the SoftwareDistribution folder, and then click Rename.
    d. Type SoftwareDistribution.old, and then press ENTER.

    3. Restart the computer.

    1. Käynnistä tietokone vikasietotilassa.
    a) Käynnistä tietokone uudelleen
    b) Painele F8 näppäintä kun tietokone käynnistyy
    **F8:sia pitää painaa ennen Windows Vista latausikkunaa**
    c) Kun käyttöjärjestemän valinta -ikkuna avautuu, valitse nuolinäppäimillä Vikasietotila (SafeMode) ja paina ENTER.

    2. Uudelleennimeä SoftwareDistribution-kansio. Onnistuu seuraavalla tavalla. (Olet siis Windowsin vikasietotilassa)
    a) Paina käynnistä-valikkoa (siis mistä löytyy kaikki ohjemat), kirjoita %windir% käynnistävalikon Etsi..-laatikkoon ja paina ENTER
    b) Kaiva esiin SoftwareDistribution-kansio
    c) Klikkaa kansiota hiiren oikealla ja valitse Nimeä uudelleen.
    d) Anna kansiolle nimi SoftwareDistribution.old ja paina ENTER

    3. Käynnistä tietokone uudelleen.
