    Hello all,
Did something really stupid. I am a newbie to linux, had a friend install grub and linux on a partition on my dell laptop. Today by mistake I went in XP's control Panel --> administrative tools --> storage --> hard disk and deleted the logical partition that was linux's. On trying to reboot the laptop I get the following screen:
    ----------------------------
    GRUB Loading stage1.5.

    GRUB loading, please wait...
    Error 17
    ----------------------------
I am looking for the safest method of reclaiming the partition of linux (I have linux on my desktop and dont need linux on laptop) while having my XP data intact.

    Any help would greatly help.
    Thx!

right load into the recovery console. then go to the command prompt and type FIXMBR

its where GRUB is installed still in the Master Boot Record, when you deleted the partition you also delted the Grub. so Grubs trying to load without a program behind it. so it fails.

soo put the Windows XP disc in your PC on start up. load the recovery consol. and then get to the CMD

    hope that helps1
