Quite a few months ago I had this taskmgr.exe virus. I was able to track it down and delete any files associated with it, but it kept popping up with WinPatrol. I finally found it in my registry, and deleted it. The problem is, is that as soon as I restart the registry value comes back. When I run hijack this it says (Action Taken: Registry value is deleted), but its still clearly there. Anyone know what I can do?
Try using the same method of scanning and removal, but in safe mode. The reason is many processes and drivers are not active in this mode. If Hijack If unsuccessful in removing the file, or if Hijack won't start in this mode, seek further information as to it's removal. DO NOT MANUALLY EDIT YOUR REGISTRY. This can be very dangerous to the operation of your pc. Inevitably, it's your choice. Good luck. Cheers.
I would also try on-line scans using Panda, Kaspersky, and Trend micro. Also a HJT log posted could be usefull. You did not get rid of what created it.
Thanks for the replies. I have already run everything in safe mode, and with system restore shut off. I couldn't even find the original file until I turned off system restore. Now no program detects it except winpatrol. I have also tried the online scanners. They don't detect anything but my cookies. I see a couple of things I would fix with HJT but im not good enough yet to say. It's the experts in here that will look at your log and say what to do. I don't want to hurt your system and they know what to look for like blood hounds. Their that good! X10 your being very nice!
Yeah I know these guys are awesome thats why I come here for most of my pc problems. I understand about not wanted to do any damage to my system, so thank you for taking a look anyway.
