Dell Inspiron 1501

    I have a dell inspiron 1501 laptop that turns on but displays no image and i do not hear any startup noise.
    -the cd tray opens none of the lights on the laptop stay on except the power.
    -i tried connnecting to an external monitor and the monitor does not recieve a signal or display an image
