I am downloading avi files for conversion to dvd format. No matter which conversion program I use, they abort part way through. The programs used are AVSmedia, Divx 6, and Winavi.

After the abort, a windows message comes up stating a problem has been encountered with the respective program. When a report is sent to Microsoft, it send back a message stating the problem is caused by a device driver.

This problem has been with me for many weeks, and over the wekend, I purged my disks and reloaded the windows xp and all programs.

The problem still exists. Has anyone else experienced this?

Any ideas of how to get past it?

I get the same error. I can only suspect it is with the MCI device, to which I don't know what it does or how to update/make compatible.

    Problem now solved.

Apart from aborting during the conversion, the system would occasionally crash into a blue screen error stating that it was a read error or access error.

Fortunately, one of the messages indicated the rror was " Bad spool caller". I did a search on Microsoft site and the answer was that the error was due to faulty memory.

I took my memory card out of the motherboard and cleaned it before replacing it and making sure that it was properly seated. I have not had the error since.
