How is the quality when I convert with dg pulldown? It seems so easy and a little too good to be true.
Are you converting from 25fps (PAL) to 29.97fps (NTSC) or from 23.976fps (film) to 29.97fps? For the second one it will look the same way a properly encoded film source NTSC DVD would because that's how they're made. If you're using it for PAL to NTSC it's a little more difficult to make a blanket statement because you may or may not have to re-encode the video first to get the correct resolution.
Quality is unchanged, because the video is not re-encoded. DGPulldown only changes the framerate tags, thus fooling the authoring app/dvd player into thinking the file is compliant. It works splendidly, however Vurbal has hit a point. Some video encoded at 720x576 must be re-encoded to 720x480. You should KEEP the framerate at 25fps, then use dgpulldown to go from 25 to 29.97fps. This avoids audio sync issues almost completely.
Exactly. The main thing to consider when deciding whether you need to re-encode to the correct resolution is whether your player will convert it to the correct vertical resolution automatically or have some other behavior (make the picture "roll" or simply remove lines). If it doesn't give you problems playing a disc with the incorrect resolution you don't need to re-encode and DGpulldown should give you as good a result as possible.
Thanks guys. I wasn't too clear in my original post but I meant the video quality in terms of the framerate. It was a PAL avi which I changed the resolution of. So there shouldn't be any hickups in the video as long as there wasn't any in the original? Thanks again.
