With cd identifier my disks from Diskmaker are id'ed as Taiyo Yudens. Under dye it says "Long Strategy: e.g. Cyanine, Azo, etc.". My disks from Verbatim are id'ed as Prodisc's. Under dye it says "Short Strategy: e.g. Phthalocyanine". What's the difference and are they both good media? Thanks!
This is the best explanation I could find....."long-strategy" or "short-strategy"; what do they mean? Inside a CD-R recorder there are electronics that convert the sequence of electronic pulses corresponding to the information to be recorded into laser light pulses. "Write strategy" is the term used for the rules by which this conversion takes place. A long strategy stretches out these pulses; a short strategy shortens them a bit. The purpose of write strategy is to provide some compensation for the way different recording dyes behave. Typically a long write strategy is used with cyanine dye media and a short write strategy is used with phthalocyanine dye media.....Hope it helps!
Maybe this is better....DYE type 0-4 is cyanine or AZO which is long strategy. Long strategy means your writer need to have the laser swithched on longer to get the correct pit size. Cyanine type discs is slowly disappearing now, but they may still work better with some older writers (4X and older) DYE type 5-9 is phthalocyanine which is short strategy. Short strategy means that the laser have to be on for a shorter time to get the correct pit size. Better lifespan, reflectivity and compatibility. Works better than cyanine at high speeds but may have problems with some old writers due to the writers not knowing the right write strategy for these new discs.
