I understand this is an AUDIO program I am discussing. But, I put it in the general forum because it seemed more like an issue with the program itself, not with any difficulties with audio files themselves. If this is in the wrong forum, I apologize.

Okay, I got this program called "WMA to Mp3 converter v1.16".
(Just in case anyone's interested, it's free and you can find it here http://www.afterdawn.com/software/audio_software/mp3_tools/wma_to_mp3_converter.cfm )

So, this is what I did...
    1) Downloaded and installed the program
    2) Opened the program
    3) Clicked on "Add files" and selected the desired file
    http://i28.tinypic.com/5lqkaf.png (Screen shot of 3)
    4) Got an error message that read
"The following file could NOT be read properly.
    [INSERT FILE PATH]
You need to update your DirectX to version 8.1 or higher"
    http://i30.tinypic.com/30t0y2f.png (Screen shot of 4)
    5) Went and downloaded a self-extracting file for DirectX 9
    6) Unloaded the goodies to the folder "directx" in my "Program Files" folder
    7) Started up the executable
    8) Installed it and got a message that said "DirectX is now installed and ready for use"
    9) Fired up my program and had action 3 and 4 repeat itself. (Didn't work)
    10) Restarted my computer
    11) Tried to use the program again and got the same error message.

Is this a compatibility issue? Is there some sort of bug in DX or the program? Perhaps my OS?

    I appreciate the help.

    ** Note: I'm using a Dell5150 laptop running Windows XP **
