I have a CD-RW drive in my computer. There are several users of the computer, but i don't want anybody else than me to be able to use the CD-RW drive. Is there a way i can achieve this? Is it possible to make windows disable the drive for some windows user profiles (i use Windows 98 SE)?
Hiya, Under Win98SE it is a MAJOR HASSLE trying to do what you want (Win98SE has NO security worth speaking of - too easy to hit ESC or CTRL-ALT-DEL to byapss it). Under 2000 or XP it is a lot easier Sorry to disappoint.. Byeeeee..
get yourself program called TweakUI. It's made by microsoft. http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_download.asp?fid=2803&fileidx=1 You can do a lot with it and one thing you can do is make drives visible/invisible to users.
With W2k, goto the administrative tools and then local security policy and then mess around with the rules there. if you dont/cant/wont upgrade the OS then one thing that MIGHT work and is free is to goto device manager and disable the device whenever you are done using the comp Assuming the rest of the members arent technically savvy they might not be able to figure that was just disabled heehee.
