Some of our more played movies r gettin pretty beat up. They still seem to b playin alright, I just wonderin if u think that it would b worth it to buy a cleaning and stratch remover kit? Also i was wonderin if it is necessary to clean laser lens. I have heard yes and no. Thanx.
That's the main reason we backup our dvd collection,so the kids don't ruin them. Back them up,and store the originals for safe keeping and let the little uns play frizbee with them. As long as they play ok,you should be alright. But if you want to back them up later, you may get crc errors from the damage. If you must get them resurfaced, try a video store like blockbuster to do that job. There's a repair kit at walmart called the electric skip Dr that may also work for around $30 Cleaning laser lens? This is a last resort in my book. Those hard discs cleaners can knock around your laser's lens. If you run into freezing/pixellation/or skipping-just remember that hard disc cleaner is a last resort, just before replacing a stand alone player. You can always try ejecting the tray and spraying compressed air into that drive. I ruined my first $200 rca player because the manual said to clean the lens every 10-12 hrs of viewing. That's a bunch of hog wash. Just try to keep those discs clean.
