I just installed my dvd/cd player to my dell computer. But when i boot my computer up and try to install windows xp it doesn't read it. Sorry if this has been posted before.
moved to correct forum as not an all other topics issue. what is the jumper setting on the back of the drive set at as in master, slave or cable select? dell drives are usually jumpered as cable select.
All set as cable select, i also try a different drive to see if it was broken. But it still didn't work.
yeah there was, but i unplugged one of them. I went in to the bios and i try to boot from the dvd drive but it doesn't even show up.
Make sure the cable is plugged in on the system board. You may have unplugged it accidently when you replaced the drive.
it does now, i switch diskette not installed to 5 something and now it shows up. But it still doesn't play my xp or vista disks.
change the boot sequence in the bios so that the dvd drive is 1st with hd 2nd. disable boot from lan.
