I have an acer aspire 7520g and vista on it. Recently, even though I had it for a long time(which makes me think recent windows updates are to blame) my screen started pulling some strange tricks. I got 3-4 blackscreens, followed by a "successfull" reset of the display driver error message each time. Now I don't know how successfull is described in bill gates's dictionary, but after each blackscreen my screen still had a problem, which prolly y it was followed by another blackscreen everytime and a lovely bluescreen at the end. After the reboot it wouldn't even load windows and gave me bluescreen right from the start... Well, here's what I did after some extensive search on the net. I donwnloaded the latest nvidia drivers from the official site, downloaded driver cleaner as well... After I formatted and reinstalled windows I expected not to have this problem, until I installed the updates at least. As soon as I loged in windows update was running, cause I was enough od an idiot to leave the laptop connected to the internet...I pressed stop instalation, or downloading, I don't remember and I changed the settings to download the updates and then ask me wether to install them or not...after that it said updates successfully installed(here comes that successfull again). Wtf? What could there possibly have time to download and install out of 72 updates in a minute or 2?? I think it was an erroneus message and even if sth was installed it would have been olser updates prolly, which would have nothing to do with my recent problem. So y after that the display driver started acting up again is beyond me... Anyway, I rebooted in safe mode and I uninstalled nvidia display driver via add/remove programm feature. Rebooted in safe mode again and installed latest 1. In normal mode I noticed that I still had the problem, so I installed every windows update, including an optional nvidia 1. And just when I thought I was done guess what... Now, what can I do besides killing bill and blowing up microsoft offices? I read how to update drivers through device manager, but I don't know where to find latest drivers in whatever form they are needed... Btw, it should be obvious by now that I have an nvidia graphics card. Specifically I have a geforce 8600M GS. So thanks in advance for any1 that helps me out with this, I really apreciate it. EDIT: lOl, prolly left the most important part out xd When I reboot after having installed the latest driver, I get this error once before it logs me in. It's a RunDLL error and it sais: Error in C:\Windows\system32\NVCPL.DLL Missing entry:ExportOEMDefaults From some searches I made it was sugested to go and remove that path from booting(I don't remember how), but that wasn't sugested in any driver related answers, so I didn't do it.
zafos, Here is a link to the latest driver for your video card. The DLL error is related so hopefuly it will rectify your problem.
Oh, a newer driver, I didn't see that, cause it was released too recently. It still didn't work though, installed and got bluescreen before I could even see the desktop again... Here's what I did: 1)Boot in safe mode and uninstalled nvidia display(only) driver from add/remove program feature. 2)Restarted in safe mode and run driver cleaner, cleaned nvidia drivers 3)Restarted in safe mode and installed this driver 4)Restarted-blue screen
I would install the Acer chipset and VGA driver from here (ensure you select your OS). Does not look like it likes the new drivers.
VGA? That's the safe mode resolution isn't it? I don't want that! Anyway, I'll try it and I'll get back to you, but keep in mind I want the full capabilities of my graphics card...I mean no offense, thanks a lot for helping, really, but what does "it doesn't like the new driver" means? I paid for it to work, damn it! Plus, it wouldn't even work with the old driver and no updates... DAMN THIS VISTA SHIT @.@!!
Well, that didn't work either, shit... And this time I formated again before I did it! unistalled->rebooted->driver cleaner->rebooted->installed This was the procedure I followed for the display and the chipset drivers(so I did that procedure 2ce) having driver cleaner clean nvidia and nForce....wtf must I do to get this piece of shit working? Is there no other alternative than to go to acer service? Please, don't make me go back there! EDIT:It actually kinda works now! Yes the display driver error comes up a dew times, but then instead of giving me a bluescreen about how the display driver crashed, it actually does what it claims to do: succesfully restart the display driver and then I can even watch vids and no error comes up! I didn't notice this at 1st, cause it takes about half an hour of errors to get it working xd I will install all the windows updates and see what happens next... EDIT AGAIN:Now it's giving me a permanent blackscreen! I guess the error/normal screen is random, but at least no blue screen...
That's it! Nothing works! Format doesn't work. Basic display and chipset drivers after format with no updates doesn't work. Now I am convinced it is a hardware problem and plan to take it to service(damn....) Before I do that, does any1 think this might be sth else other than a hardware problem? Pls help...
moved to correct forum as not a windows issue. what service pack of vista are you using? how are you reloading vista, off a dvd or system recovery partition on the hard drive?
I'm sorry, when this started I thought it was a problem windows update caused me, cause it hapened right adter 1... When I say all updates I specify sp1,2 and an optional nvidia update. Also have tried it with no updates at all, so I have tried basic and latest drivers with no sp, sp1 and sp2. Vista is installed with use of a recovery partiotion, like u said. Alt+f10 after acer screen=system recovery for me xd Think maybe some of the system recovery thing might be tainted? There is a method where u use 2 dvds to copy vista on them and recover from them, but I thought that system recovery was equal to that, after all, it formats...
