Can anyone sort us out with DivX 3. I get it from the original site and DivX Digest.com but it complains about a missing file or something.

Has anybody got a copy of DivX 3 that actually works as well.

Regarding my older post I gave up with 5 after it refused to compress anything properly. Now it likes to freeze and jump frames too.

The version at DivX Digest ( http://www.divx-digest.com/software/divxcodec.html ) definitely works, I had to reinstall it just the other night.

"it complains about a missing file or something" ..? Can you try it again, and report exactly what it's complaint it?

As for your problems with DivX 5..

Freezing and jumping frames? What CPU and how much memory do you have?

7 meg files for 8 seconds of footage? What bitrate did you tell it to use? What program are you using to do the compression? VirtualDub or something else? If you are using VirtualDub, where are you setting the bitrate? For DivX you need to set in in the actual DivX config dialog (select Video->Compression, select "DivX 5.0.2 Codec", then hit the Configure button). Don't use the "Use target data rate of __ kilobytes/second" in the Video->Compression dialog.

Hmm.. this is when you are trying to install DivX, yes?

The zip should contain the following files:

    DivXa32.acm
    L3codeca.acm
    DIVX_c32.ax
    DivXc32f.dll
    DivXc32.dll
    Register_DivX.exe
    SetStereo.exe
    DivX.inf
    DivX MPEG4 Video Codec.txt
    Stereo.txt
    DivX Site.url

..if that all looks OK, right-click on "DivX.inf" and hit "Install" from the popup menu. (you can run "Register_DivX.exe" but I prefer to do it by hand so I know what's going on).

If that doesn't work.. I'm confused. What version of Windows are you using?
