I've been using Divx player on my pc to play all my video files without any problems until today. Upon opening a file, I was prompted to login to my Divx account. Since I don't have one, I clicked on 'create account' and gave my chosen login details. After verifying the account, I tried to open the video again. The splash screen now shows a movie reel spinning and the message 'Preparing for Playback - Verifying account details' then I get a window saying 'Playback Authorization failed: The file you are attempting to play is invalid'. This only happens with certain files, not all. And those files will not now play on any other media player I have like they once used to. What's going on?
Sounds like they are DRM infested. Not sure if anyone has broken DivX's DRM yet and if they did, then I would imagine like other solutions (WMV DRM, Apple FairUse, etc.) that you would require a valid license before you could remove the DRM.
