Is there anyway i can find out what version of Divx a file is. For example is there away to find out if a file is Divx 3,4,5,6.

Thanks for the link the Codec was XVID/yv12 but couldent find out the version number. My DVD player plays Divx 3, 4, 5, and XVID will it be able to play that kind of file above?
If a player supports divx content, it can usually play all divx/xvid files, it doesn't matter which version it is. If you're not sure you can always try with a cd-rw if you don't want to waste a disc. But I'm quite sure your player can play that file.
XviD as well as DivX 4.x, 5.x and 6.x are all MPEG-4 part 2. DivX 4.x was from recollection SP only though. Still MPEG-4 part 2 is MPEG-4 part 2. Doesn't matter if it is DivX, XviD or whatever. Although for standalone it probably needs to be in an avi container, so you need to worry about fourCC's, so it is possible that for an XviD avi you need to change the fourCC from XVID to DX50. Also no standalones support 3 warp point GMC, some don't support qpel, etc. If it was encoded with a recent (last couple of years) build of XviD then the file would contain a bitstream version number.
I tried the file on my DVD player and when i press play on the file it just showed a blank screen for 2 seconds then the stop symbol came up. I checked the file again using Mpeg 4 modifier and the it showed DivX503b1393p XviD0039 build=2005.09.25 I cant see why the file wont play still. Any ideas?
Weird, it should play. Maybe the audio codec is not supported, and because of that the whole video won't work.
How do i find out if the audio codec is suported? Could it be the screen resolution? In the players Manual it says If the video and audio structure of the file is not interleaved it will return to the main menu. Anyone know what the above means?
Means it was encoded with my CVS compile from 2005.09.25. About the interleave, you can remux to fix it, but GSpot will tell you if it is interleaved or not. Will also tell you the resolution. Most players handle 720x576 max.
Where abouts does it say if the file is interleaved or not using GSpot I can see the stream type and a/v interleave but i dont understand the infomation beeing displayed in this section.

I'd be looking else where. Does the file use qpel or GMC? What player do you have anyway? For instance qpel isn't a problem for MTK based players, but it is for ESS.
