I am searching for a good program to edit divx/xvid files yet still maintain the original video and audio codecs. I'm hoping for one not super complicated ie one with a timline and the ability to cut out accurately unwanted portions. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
What you want is VirtualDubMOD - just search the site for that program. Also, do not confuse it with VirtualDub; you want VirtualDubMOD, which is better.
Well if they are avi's then technically VirtualDub has an edge since the latest builds have a smart render feature where it can cut at non keyframes and only re-encode the required parts. With VirtualDubMod you can cut on keyframes only, which isn't exactly accurate. Still VDubMod can handle more containers (mkv (support is out of date) and ogm) as well as being able to handle VBR audio. AVIDemux can also cut on non keyframes, uses fixed quant to re-encode the required sections. Not sure what VDub does.
Appreciate the info, I had VirtualDubMod recommended at another forum as well, Iwas a little afraid it was a rather complicated program though. I am also looking for a program similar to Apollos #1 dvd ripper, but with the capability of maintaining the ac3 soundtrack when ripping to Divx. Once again, thanks.
