    Load the video into virtualdubmod.

Go to the video menu and select scan video stream for errors.

If you have any bad frames, you can either choose to mask or delete them.

Set video to Direct Stream Copy and save.

    Did Virtualdubmod report any errors?

    Yes

I believe it is the original dvd that is faulty
I am ripping anime and the second disc in each volume skips

Is there any other way to fix the skipping?

Does the dvd skip on your standalone player, that is if you have one. Have you tried watching the dvd on another computer? Maybe the one you are using now can't playback the dvd smoothly.

If indeed the dvd is faulty, then you don't have much options in trying to correct it when converting to divx. I have the Trigun Box collection and whoever did the transfer from analog to digital must have screwed up on Disc 5. Most of the scenes are not smooth and I guess they skip; I can't really explain very well. Anyways, when I ripped it I was not able to create a smooth looking backup because of the errors already in the dvd stream but it was watchable. One interesting thing Id like to add is when I watched the dvd on my Playstation2(I don't have a standalone dvd player :)), everything was fine, the picture didn't skip and everything ran smoothly. Im guessing its because the dvd was interlaced, which is pretty odd for anime...
So, which anime dvd are you trying to rip and what settings are you using?

And can you explain a little more in detail how the problem with the frames look?

Half of the avi is fine
    But the other half skips

    I used Divx 5.1
    Normal setting
    CBR audio

These are the settings I use for all my avi
Never had a problem besides the Saber

    No Problem. :)

Ok, Im assuming this is a series and there's probably 3-4 eps in a disk...

Do you rip each epsisode individually or do you rip the whole dvd?

Which programs do you use to encode the dvd?
If you use DVD2AVI, is the dvd interlaced or is it telecined?
(If it doesnt say interlaced its telecined :))

If you are using DVD2AVI, then maybe your problem comes from the program. Sometimes when indexing the vob files of some dvds, DVD2AVI screws up the field order of the stream. DVD2AVI should give you a .D2V file that has a field order that looks something like this: top field / bottom field /top field / bottom field /top field / bottom field etc....Or bottom field first then top field.

A possible error of DVD2AVI would be for it to give you two consecutive field orders top field/top field/bottom field/. This could lead to the skipping frames you are experiencing.

You can fix this by downloading a program called fixd2v. (Its name says it all...) It's created by Donald Graft and it corrects this sort of problem created by DVD2AVI.

    http://neuron2.net/fixd2v/fixd2v121.zip

NOTE: If the program doesn't give you a "fix d2v.fixed" file, then your .d2v file had no errors and your problem is caused by something else other than DVD2AVI. What else might be the problem? Im not sure, youll need to give more info on how you create your AVI.

    Good Luck.

    Ok.

Id recommend only ripping the eps that are giving you problems and encode test clips with whatever settings you use to see if they are working properly.

If youve got it down, you can then delete the eps that are skipping and replace them with the newly encoded ones.
Also you should download fixd2v and run your d2v project into the program just to make sure the field order is correct as well as a precaution to any other problems that might arise.

Good Luck._X_X_X_X_X_[small]Life is but a dream...so wake me up already!!![/small]
