I recently downloaded a group of files with the ending extension of divx5.ogm What is that? What do I need in order to play it on my computer? What do I need to convert it to burn on DVD? Thanks in advance!
.OGM is a container format for OGG. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ogg Have you tried the VLC player? http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ There's at least one tool that converts .ogm to avi without recoding: http://ogmtoavi.sourceforge.net/ It doesn't look like it's been updated for 4 years. No doubt there are others.
So an avi will work on a DVD to play on my TV? How do I compress the size of the file to get it to fit on the DVD?
The AVI will play directly on your DVD player if it is Divx certified. Otherwise, you need to convert it to DVD with something like DVD Flick.
I have a set of files that are the divx5.ogm, and another set that are AVI. So if I convert them all with DVD FLick, they will be DVD player compatible. Ok, got that part. Now, how can I shrink the files so that I can get more than just a couple 30 minutes of video on each DVD? Thank you so much to everyone for all of your patience and help, I greatly appreciate it!
YAY! I used DVD Flick to get my AVI files on DVD, and it worked fantasticly, thank you! Now on the ogm files... They all play just fine on my computer, but when I tried to add them to DVD flick, one of the files in the middle of the group will not add because it is "corrupt or truncated". Any thoughts...?
The file that is corrupt, try runing it through Avimux Gui or Video Repair: http://www.risingresearch.com/en/dvr/
Well... Digital Video Repair doesn't recognize the file type, and the Animux gui never worked. I'm operating on Windows 7, don't know if that has anything to do with it. Do I need to just download a converter and change these files to avi? I've never seen a file name with so many .this.that.ogm before. Thanks again for all the help, I've been enjoying the first set that worked, after spending over 2 weeks trying to figure it out! Ya'll made my month. Lol
If you're going to be playing DivX/AVI files are your DVD player, you might as well use the free official software from DivX. Can't figure our Avidemux, and a divx player isn't going to do me any good... I don't know if I should treat it as a divx file, or an ogm file...? I'm new to this whole thing, sorry ya'll.
Ya it gave me all kinds of weird errors. Lol. I think its this whole windows 7 thing and the fact that I did it as an upgrade from Vista. Ah, Windows... Ok got G downloaded and extracted, now how do I use it? Have I thanked you lately for sharing your infinite knowledge and patience with me? Lol
