I always use Shrink and Nero with success when backing up a DVD, but when I attempt to use Nero after converting an AVI I'm having trouble. I went to the guide you sent, but It is the same guide I use to backup DVD'S. When using Nero and selecting DVD-VIDEO I get this message when trying to burn:
(DVD-Video files compliance test failed. The resulting DVD-Video might be unplayable. Do you want to continue.)

When I select DVD-ROM(ISO) I get this message:
(You have added DVD-Video content to a compilation type that will notresult in a DVD-Video comnpliant disc. To create discs playable in stanalone DVD-Video players, please use the DVD-Video compilation type.)

When I continue it lets the burn complete with success, but the DVD is unplayable. However when I burn with DvdSanta the disc plays great.

Please help if you can thanks!
