I have xcopy plat 321 with patin couffin 1.15.....95% of the time i have no problems, but just wondered if i need to update the driver
To be honest i hate this programe as it is the lazy way to back things up.I would recomend you update to a better software.Iam lazy myself and would have took this software under my wings if i thought it was worth it as i have this collecting dust in my do not use software pile.I loved the thought of 1 click copying software for dvd but found 321 not all to be what its meant to be.Lets be honest how many software packages do you see with so many updates and different programes. Its not a all in one and you have to by games x copy and so on to do all.My opinion just another way to get your hard earned brass.Find a good ripper like dvd shrink which is free of charge and you can get off this site and buy a all in 1 like Nero 6. I know we may be lazy but dont we all want something that works.Since then I have tried the Shrink,Nero option.Yeah its fine but takes ages.....2-4 hours!!!!!I may go back to being lazy!!
OK then can you help then please.I've been told to make sure the DMA settings are ok,but I have no tab in the primary and secondry IDE Channel to change this all I have are the General,Driver and Resources tabs.
Best way is to go in to control panel then system click on hardware then go in to device manager.Click on the drive you want to check then right click for properties. You should then be able to set to dma.Another way if you can not find the dma setting if you watch movies on your pc you can enable dma through power dvd software if you have it.The easiest way to do this will be re install and when it first kicks up it will give you the option to enable dma.You can also do this through the configure section i think. It depends on the settings you are using on the new Shrink v3.2 ... If you don't use any of the "Quality Enhancements" then on a good pc it should take around a hour for a dvd-9. If you use the "Quality Enhancement" it could take 2-3 times longer doing a dvd-9. @YouWot!, If you do any update, only update to v4.0.4.15RF and use 321rip with it. I wouldn't update to v4.0.3.8 [bold]And why is this in the DVD2One Forum??[/bold] _X_X_X_X_X_[small]Dell 8250, Pentium 4 2.80GHz 1.5 GB RDRAM, 200GB HD TDK 840G, Sony DDU-1612 DVD-ROM XP Pro, ATI All-In-Wonder 9000 Pro[/small]
Thanks John. I had the Intel application accelerator installed which was not showing the settings in device manager. But still taking same times of between 2-4 hours. If thats how its meant to be,i'll have to live with it!!Also should the CPU be running at 100% continously throughout the Shrink process?
No problem mate my pc is a average spec as you can see if you look at the bottom of this post. Can you please give me some info on your spec as this seems far to slow.I was doing faster times than this with a 2 x Speed dvd writer installed in a AMD Athlon 500 pc with 64mb of memory.Speed is not always the best option as if you take a little more time you will also get the quality. But 2-4 hours is far to slow so lets see if we can get you up a gear or two.If any of you other guys are looking in can you please pass your advise on to YouWot so we can get him up to speed. Thanks John179
YouWot! Why is this in DVD2ONE??!?! If you wanted to ask a friggen question, at the very top of this section there was a nice thread -- bolded even -- that said something along the lines of Want to ask a Question here? Read this First. -- something you should have looked at ... here a link if you need it: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/93395 (sorry if i'm a tad harsh ... ive had a bad life) Time for a... John179 Let's try to help the guy first ... sure we know it's crappy or what not but the guy's got a problem... so let's put our collective heads together and get a solution going ..... solution first, critiques second. _ _X_X_X_X_X_[small]ASUS A7N8X-X, XP2500+ OC'd to XP3200+ Samsung 1024MB, PC2700 OC'd to PC3200 480GB [3x160GB, 7200, 8MB] EVGA, GeForce4 Ti4600 128MB Rules and Policies: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/2487[/small]
What can I say???????????? .......sorry? And I did a search for my original query and there wasn't any answers, just as john179 didn't answer my straight forward question in his reply. But we've moved on since then!!!!!
Praetor i see you have had a look around and quoted one of my post's nice one.My aim was to try and help YouWot.Yes he has posted to the wrong section but we all have probably done this once in a while.Yes i do not like 321 but that is just my personal opion.I have nothing agianst people who do use it good luck to them and may they have a 100% sucsess with it.I do think you were a little harsh but we all are at times. As you have jumped down my throat and posted quotes from my other post's i will leave this one to you so i do not get my hands burnt any more. John179
LOL no worries Like I said... "bad life" (and some people think a bad day is bad ) John179 No worries I see that your comment was well-intended but note that it doesnt help solve the problem at hand which was why i said to "put our collective heads together...." (not too hard tho or it'll bruise )
Right then back to the subject in hand there is a couple of things you can check. You need to check and make sure your drive is set to DMA support this will help alot. You should also have a look at your burner speed to ensure it is not writing at its slowest speed.I would also whilst working on your project press ctrl alt and delete at the same time. This will bring up your task manager.Click on the performance setting to see how hard your memory is working. You can also click on processes and see how many application are working. You can close down applications you know will not effect the programes your running but be careful what you close. This will free more memory up and may speed things up a bit.I would also recomend you down load smartripper from this site and test the speeds of ripping against those of your other software. If you do have a copy of Nero check through the Nero tool kit your drive speeds.Your memory usage is the most important thing to look at if you have alot of icon showing in your task bar near your clock these will soak up some of your memory.Close these down as the more things your memory is doing it will slow your pc down. Also as Praetor said another important thing is check the settings on your software as it may be doing more than you want it to with enhanced bits and bobs it can slow it down more. John179 Ps Praetor my head is now bruised.
There is nothing to check. Subject was "do I need a patin couffin udpate?" ... and the answer is NO. 95% of the time it works, there are a few movies XCopy can't or has a hard time backing up. But so do the others. Now if you wanna update anything, update the version your using to v4.0.4.15RF Now if what your checking is in regards to this last quote. 1) It's off topic 2) The new Shrink v3.2 w/ using "Quality Enchancements" can take that long. 3) If something was wrong with his/her IDE settings, (s)he would also have long times with XCopy.
