Im debating on turning off my routers firewall settings. Im not to sure if its helping anything really. I have Linksys BEFSX41 router and im not sure but i think the firewall is messing with my xbox 360 messenger. For some reason i get signed out of the xbox live msn messenger randomly and im thinking it could be the router. Can anyone give me a good idea of what to use and not to use.

    I wouldn't advise turning off a router's firewall.
I used to use software firewalls years ago but gave up on those a long time back, they are more trouble than they're worth, hardware firewalls in routers are far better in my opinion. I always leave the Windows built-in firewall enabled, don't think it does a great deal though.

A very good test is Shields Up - https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2

..choose options File Sharing, Common Ports and All Service Ports.

And on that note i'll close this one as we're dealing with the router side of things here - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/701392
