When I rip a DVD that has both 5.1ch and 2.0ch tracks for the same audio (obviously not commentary), do I need to rip both the 2 channel audio for the DVD to sound alright in a DVD player without a surround system? I have a system but quite frequently I lend a DVD or watch the movie at a friends house. I know if I cut out the 2ch audio I can save alot of space and not have to compress as much. Also... Is DTS really superior to Dolby? I've read alot of arguments but when I see the size of the DTS tracks on this DVDs it's amazing. THANK YOU!
XtraCrisp Hmm! Now for the confusion. If it's a music (rock concert) then you might not be able to remove either, esepcially if the 5 channels is AC3 5 or DTS 5 and the 2 channel is PCM because some of the older tracks might be in PCM. If we're talking about a movie and you're keeping the extras then the movie might be 5:1 but the directors comments will be 2 channel.
