Does Adding Artwork Into An MP3 File Make The File Bigger?

    After being puzzled as to why so much hard disk space was being lost I came to the conclusion that it must be the files are getting bigger when I add artwork embedded into the MP3 file. Can anyone confirm this?

    I didn't realize that until now. Does it affect the the quality or length of the audio?

    most pictures are pretty small though, it only adds maybe 20k to the entire filesize
