If I purchase a HDTV television (like a Samsung 5678), will it work with my Dish Satelite set-top box??
    Thanks

After reading more threads in this forum, I'm even more confused.
Can someone please set me straight?? I have Dish Network satelite service (but not HDTV), am I wasting my money buying a 56" Samsung rear projection DLP 5678, just to watch regular dish TV. If so, what kind of tv do I need?? We will be sitting 9-12' from tv, so I need a big one, but what kind HDTV or HDTV ready, or what???
    Please hel this confused person.

    Buy the TV.

Upgrade to Dish Networks HD service because the picture will be very bad all the time without it (don't make excusses).

Buy an upconverting DVD, HD DVD or Blu-Ray player so you can enjoy movies and/or HD movies on you big screen.

Buy a surround sound system because the best thing about a movie or tv show can be its sound track!

Buy a Power Conditioner (not just a crapy $10 multi outlet surge protector) so that all of your equipment last longer and preforms better.

    Buy the Warrenty.

Have everything installed by someone that knows what they are doing!

My point is don't half ass, you know this will be one of the largest purchases in your life. Talk to friends. Talk to Sales people. Make an educated decision.

I know, that was concentrated dose of truth but I felt it was apt,

    Thanks diabolos
I value you opinion very much. You said that if I didn't upgrade to Dish Network HD that my picture would always be awful. But, Dish Network HD doesn't carry all their channels in HD, so does that mean if I watch a channel that isn't in HD (even though I subscribe to HD) the picture would be awful? Or does subscribing to the upgrated HD change the picture from the non-HD channel to a better picture on the TV?

Exactly! The non-HD channels won't look anywhere near as good as the HD channels. It truly is a night and day difference. However, your HD box should have an [bold]HDMI[/bold] or DVI connction that will allow your video signal to be passed digitally. A digital connection is best since it will allow your HDTV (which is a Digital TV) to prefrom better since the signal it is getting is already in digital form.

So yes your non-HD channels will look slightly better than normal. Normal meaning hooking up the video with coax cable or other analog connection.

    Awsome,
    Ced
