Can anyone point out a good site to download some high quality audio tests, like maybe the ones you see when you go to theaters? For all those wondering I have a 5.1 surround system with built in decoder.
High Quality Dolby Digital is an oxymoron. THX certified sound stages carry an annual licensing fee of $25,000 and must be set up by a Dolby Engineer. But that is by the by. What exactly are you looking for please? You won't get High Quality AC3 test files. You can get high quality Audio test files, but not already pre encoded to DD. If you are referring to the Dolby Trailers, these are only (legally) available from Dolby Labs on signing a TMA agreement with them. It means you must own a properly licensed & approved multichannel encoder though. See http://www.dolby.com/professional/licensing_trademark/other_content_encoder.html
I assume you want a calibration disc. You will need an SPL meter as well to set up your system. AVAI makes one of the best discs for the DIYer. AVAI Guide to Home Theater is the title, and a quick link to it on amazon is below. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/A...14573&adid=0K58MS2DTSQ50BB6XVWX&link_code=as1 However, since it is a copyrighted disc and it would be a violation of copyright infringement rules of the forum, I cannot link you to somewhere to download it. Besides, it would be best to actually purchase the disc, since slight variations in your burning might be enough to influence the set up.
Many Dvd discs have simple THX tests for audio and video.......Fight Club, Star Wars, many Disney. StarWars I, disc 1...has a LucasFilm THX Optimizer icon in the menu which brings up the tests. http://www.thx.com/mod/products/dvdFind.html I can't tell you whether each dvd on the list contains the test, perhaps a google search for dvd title details will bring up that info.
