Whenever i try to burn .avi files about 50mb nero freezes and task manager says program is not responding.

MPG and mpegs burn fine but with .avi I drag and drop and click write as normal, the burning status screen opens up and the top line says encoding but it wont encode it just freezes. i leave it for 10 mins click on task manager and it says "not responding"
    everytime.

Nero says it burns mpegs and .avi but I dont have this trouble with mpg's/mpegs just .avi.

    Whats going wrong???????

I assume you're trying to create a VCD out of the AVI by using Nero's encoder features? If so, don't. If you read through our forums (like searching for "Nero" or something like that), you find out that the Nero's VCD and SVCD "plugins" (which are actually just encoders) are extremely bad quality encoders, so rather encode your AVI into MPEG-1 by using TMPGEnc and then burn the VCD.

But if you're just simply making a data disc, then I can't unfortunately help you -- maybe re-installing Nero might solve the problem.

I doubt that re-installing chances anything. I have seen any case where Nero installation would have been damaged in this manner.

I had the same problem. I kept reinstalling Windows and trying other burning software.

The solution I find was as simple as burning at lower speeds. Before confirming the burning process it will give you the option to burn at a slower speed. I went with the lowest (8x). It may take a few more minutes but it's done right! Good Luck
