Hello, I've just got my Optorite DD1203 (I'm very happy so far) and I'm about to install it. My question is, does it matter If I connect the drive as slave drive (Primary IDE) which would be on the same IDE as my Booting hard drive or to the secondary IDE? Will performance be different either way as far as writing speed ability? Dell Dimensions 4400, XP Home, 1.7ghz, 256MB memory. PS. I currently have a Sony DRU-500A with 2.1A firmware. After unistalling the sony, does the 2.1A firmware remain on my pc or will it automatically be removed.
If I were to connect it to the secondary drive, it would be the only drive on that IDE. would this be considered the master drive, or will I have to set something in-order for it to be the master drive.
Just make sure that the jumper on the back of the burner is set to master. There should be a picture on top of the burner that what pins the jumper should be on to set it as the master. Also, connect the burner to the END of the IDE cable. (Connect the end that has the two connectors close together, to the burner.) The other end is connected to the secondary connector on the motherboard. _ _X_X_X_X_X_[small]Bruce Wallace Vietnam Vet - 1970 - 1971 3.06 Ghz Intel P4 CPU Asus P4C800-E Deluxe Motherboard 1Gig Corsair 3200 LLPro DDR Ram Plextor PX 708A DVD Burner Sony CRX320E DVD 16x + CD-RW 52x24x52 Combo ATI Radeon 9700 Pro Video Card Audigy2 Platinum[/small]
