I cannot get either drives on my computer to play DVDs but cannot figure out why. I generally use Dell Media Experience to play them without a hitch but they won't take. It tells me that it is unable to detect my VCD. This has happened across several different DVDs that I could play previously and across two different drives, leading me to believe that it is a software issue.

I am also unable to play DVDs in Windows Media Player. Somebody please help!

Do your optical drives show up in Device Manager?

Yes, both drives appear on Device Manager.

Can you read CD's, data DVD's with them? Have you uninstalled them in Device Manager, then reboot, and see if they work?

What software(s) do you have running? Any packet writing software? Have you gotten rid of malware/spyware on your computer?

Yes, I can read CDs. I don't have any data DVDs to check on hand but the drive recognizes the DVDs (i.e. in my computer I can see the name of the video DVDs I am putting in.

I have not tried the reinstall you mentioned--actually not sure how to do that.

As far as software I have running, nothing more than Firefox, iTunes, some photo software and Dell Media experience (which was unssuccessful in watching DVDs with). I am not even sure what packet writing software is, but I do have Norton Internet Security running.

    Thanks for bearing with me.
