hi i keep getting the fatal blue screen every day or two, when i reboot it says device driver error etc, so i went onto windows update, there was 4 updates for my hardware downloaded the updates installed them and half the stuff on my pc didnt work. so i did a system resote back a few days, anyway is there any way to find out what device is causing me the problems? thanks in advance
in the blue screen of death(bsod), look for the line that contains something like this 0x0000008a. post that line here so can than see what is causing your bsod. had that error when trying to do a fresh install of xp on a customer's new pc. ended up was a bad stick of ram & than a bad videocard in a brand new pc.
After doing some hardware testing.....specifically MemTest86 for your memory...stay away from drivers at the MS update site. Find, and retrieve the latest drivers from the manufacturers themselves.
thanks for the reply lads ive downloaded the memtest86 that you suggested, im not to sure how it works though, do i have to put it onto a floppy? as for the drivers is there any software i can get that will tell me what i have on my pc? thanks again
its not brand new, its a few years old now, is there anyway i can find out what motherboard i have through the pc? device manager? thanks

Mate try a program called Everest Home Edition it gives u all your computers details and links you to your driver pages as well. Everest http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html Give that a shot.
right then went onto the msi website and downloaded this live update software, it scanned my system and come up with 11 drivers, so i clicked install half way through install i got the fatal blue screen saying.... 0x0000007e (0xc0000005, 0xba067cacoxfc6e558oxfc6e254 portcissys-address bad67cac base at bad 57000 date stamp 41107f13 hopefully somebody will no what this means thanks in advance
