I have backup up a couple of DVD's and have noticed that on some of the backups, there are little square boxes of random colors (dropouts?) in some places. Near the end of the disk, it gets worse and then the disk stops playing. I can't scan forward or back. Is this because the media I recorded on is of low quality?

could be, what brand media are you using. It sounds like a media issue if the disk stops at the end.

This can happen with low quality media and also if you burn the WHOLE burnable area of the dvd......

I limit my TOTAL file size to 4440Mb in Dvd2one and burn to Ritek GO4 type media......I have flawless results with this.....

    Hope this helps....

Yes, but were they from a reputable dealer as there can be unbranded Ritek grade B's on the market and even lesser quality one. read the top part of the media forum.

I bought them over the Internet so I don't know. Will the Grade A be branded in some way?

Its hard to know. Are you in the UK? If so, at the top of the DVD-R Media section i have a post listing the only 3 official Ritek Dealers in the UK.

No I am in the US, but the company I bought the Ritek from tell you how to determine they are genuine on their website. We'll see.

They are genuine only if Ritek say they are genuine so go to here and check:

    http://www.conrexx.com

On second thoughts they are just European, but you could email them and ask them if they could direct you to the US ritek distributor (conrexx is europe distributor of ritek - everything legit comes through them)
