    Hi
This one has me pulling hair out!
    I run firmware "g" on the dru-500a, and Nero6.3.0.2.
If I use a DVD-RW disk (Verbatim), no problem in creating a DVD-Video disk. (I do this to check everything out before commiting to DVD-R).
However, if I use a (TDK or Verbatim) DVD-R disk for the same project, Nero hangs at the "checking disks" stage!!!??!!
Puting a DVD-RW back in and its OK!
The DVD-R disks are OK if I use them to create data disks.
    Anyone help??
    Thanks
    Krick

Any chance one of the disks has a writable face on the disk itself? Obviously the speed capabilities of the disk wouldn't be an issue, right?

The DVD-R's are marked "1-4x" (and the "g" firmware allows 4x write). Nero selects this (and 2.4x for the DVD-RW)
