Hi, Im looking for some advice about how to 'back-up' nintendo DS games. Recently got a DS but not sure what I need etc. Ok I know where I can get games from, torrents etc - I just need to know what equipment I need and what I do with it. Im new to DS but have done back up games before on the ps2 - a long time ago. I believe I need a SD Card or something - I could get one from ebay what should I look for? what type. Would appreciate any help, thanks.
I dont mean to sound mean but did you even read a single thread in the DS section before posting? You need something thats commonly known as a flashcart. Its a device that looks much like a DS game cart, but with either onboard flash memory or a microSD slot. Many of them support microSDHC cards and can hold over a hundred games. There are many different flashcarts you can use. You can go with the cheapo ones, like the R4 and its many variants, the edge or the firekard. But I would recommend something like the CycloDS or M3Real. They cost more but have more features and are just generally more reliable. There are dozens of threads discussing which flashcart is the best.
Thanks. Yes I have been reading around doing some research. I watched the tutorial on you tube with r4ds. I am familiar with r4ds. I heard alot about fake r4ds so you need to buy from a reliable source. Where is the best place to get this equipment. How much does all the equipment cost. Also, this may be a daft question but when you put the games on the card can you delete the games to add others etc? Still researching but I know very little about the format of ds games.
All R4's are fakes. The original team is gone, driven out of business by other groups making cheap clones of their cards. Some of the copies are ok, others have quality issues. But they all have the problem of never getting future updates. Dont go with an R4. As for cost it depends what you get and where you get it. Realhotstuff and dealextreme are both pretty well recommended. Dealextreme is cheaper and has free shipping, but expect to wait at least 2 weeks for your order to arrive, sometimes more. Realhotstuff costs a little more but has quicker shipping. Anyway, if you went absolute bargain-basement you can get a cheapo flashcart and a 1gig microSD card for under 10USD. But coming from experience let me say that its worth the money to get something better. The cycloDS generally costs about $50, but you can get an M3Real for about half that. And the games are on the SD card. Of course you can swap them on and off as you like.
