Im a newb on the DS scene and was curious as to whether or not the new upcoming DS-Xtreme card will be able to run all homebrew and backup games if possible. If not what use would it be to me? Any help would be appreciated.

Apperently it can, and very wel, it was even shown running DSorganise, and even more it ran it just as well as any other Cart can at the moment!

I'll see if I can find the video.

4 gigaBITS, meaning 512 megaBYTES. DS game sizes are determined in bits, compared to what most computer users are used to. 8 bits = 1 byte
