We just purchased a Linksys DSL/Cable Etherfast Router because I wanted to have a small LAN network using my desktop, and a laptop. We orignally purchased the WRT54G, and returned it to get the Etherfast DSL/Cable Router because we use Verzion DSL.

For some reason, we keep getting the error message - not connected to the internet. I believe that I connected everthing the right way, according to the setup program. I even went to network connections and did "ping" and received a reply which let me know that the computer recognizes the router. However, it still keeps telling me that the router is not connected to the internet.

    Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

if using xp, did you do ipconfig/release before hooking up the router than do the ipconfig/renew?

    Hi Chewy,
You have a 2-part configuration here.
First the device hooks up to the Internet. Then, it performs NAT translation for the PCs on your LAN whilst automatically assigning them IP addresses.
Seems that part #2 is functioning okay - but you have neglected to hookup to the WWW!
Well it is really the opposite - the router recognises the computer (and has assigned it an address via DHCP).
Typically the router will claim (assign itself) a level-C non-routable address ie. 192.168.0.1
It will assign clients something like 192.168.0.100
You can confirm this in Network Connections.
You must open your web browser and 'go' to the router - it serves up a configuration page, accessed via its address.
Enter 'http://192.168.0.1' or whatever address the router has displayed in Network Connections.
You must then instruct the router with your DSL Username and Password, and setup some simple configurations regarding when to hangup and reconnect.
Your PC will have no knowledge of DSL config etc. - it knows only to look towards 192.168.0.1 for whatever it needs :^)
You might have to run Windows Network Configuration Wizard, telling it your PC is on a LAN and gets its WWW through the LAN.
Let us know how it goes...
    Regards
