I was wondering if I can put a dual core processor in my Dell 4600 motherboard? At the moment its a Intel Pentium 4 3.06Ghz.

Logically it probably won't as I bought this computer 5 years ago! But I was wondering if there was a way of putting a dual core processor via minor alterations?

No I'm not planning on building my own computer, even though that would be the better option.

I will be very grateful for your advice and help. Thank you

It's highly unlikely with that board, it's too old, even if it did support dual cores, it'd be the hot, slow, old Pentium Ds, hardly a worthwhile investment. The only way to get a new CPU in there would mean a new board, and given that its a dell, that also means new PSU, and realistically a new case as well. You'll have to consider a proper upgrade soon.
