Hey everyone, I hope I'm posting this in the right place, I haven't posted here before and there are quite a few boards to choose from, but I'm pretty much a newbie to dual layer burning so I think this might be the right place ! I've been burning single layer DVD's without any problems at all, I have in the past successfully burned dual layered DVD's but I've ben having problems lately. I think I've wasted the last 12 dual layered blanks I've tried to burn to, Verbatim which I originally had no problems with and also TDK. I really don't know what setting I should have everything on but I believe I'm doing it right, using Nero, I'm trying to make a DVD - DVD copy burning at 2.4x with 2.4x TDK blanks, booktype setting at DVD-ROM, I can't figure out what else I can change to make a difference. I don't much about what the burn log tells you, maybe someone can spot something causing the problem, I've noticed #25 says "Power Callibration Error", but it seems to continue burning for a few steps after that, is this the problem, and if so can anyone tell me how to fix it ? Hello. Remove all of your Nero serial number beginning 1A... from the beginning of your log. Your burner firmware seems up to date. There is a better version of Nero 6 available, version 6.6.0.18. To upgrade: - Note your serial number. - Uninstall the current version. - Run the Nero 6 Clean Tool. http://www.nero.com/nero6/eng/Nero_6_CleanTool.html - Install version 6.6.0.18 from the following two links. Package 1 http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe Package 2 http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe Your problem is occurring as your burner tries to make the jump to the second layer. Sometimes this is due to your burner's firmware not fully understanding the media you're using. In this case you're using Ritek media which is a little different than the Verbatim media with respect to how it must be burned. Ricoh DL media is similar to the Ritek. I'm not familiar enough with your burner to know whether it burns Ritek and Ricoh DL media well or not. Personally, I never use Nero for burning DL disks. Both DVD Decrypter and Imgburn are superior in my opinion. http://www.filehippo.com/download_dvd_decrypter/ http://www.imgburn.com ImgBurn guides are here: http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?s=f7013fa179aaaf276cdabdeea600672c&showforum=4 If your just backing up a DVD and have AnyDVD running to handle structural copy protection, you can just use DVD Decrypter. - set the mode to ISO Read - rip the disk to your hard disk. - set the mode to ISO Write - set the write speed, select the MDS companion file to the ripped ISO and burn The above maintains the same layer break as the original disk. Otherwise, you'll need to use ImgBurn to set the layer break. You can also use ImgBurn to burn after ripping with DVD Decrypter. Just be sure to select the MDS file as the source. You're getting very close to running out of memory. Try to shutdown any unnecessary programs before attempting to burn. Overall, you'll probably have more success with Verbatim DL media than either Ritek or Ricoh. Ritek seems the hardest to burn for may burners. I haven't had problems with any of the three fortunately, but many do have problems with Ritek.
Nero can't pull off encryption for On The Fly.What program you using to pull off that encryption? Anydvd or dvd-43? Verbatim is the best Dual Layer media out there. More people have issues with Ritek DL media. That should be the problem. Nero6 has issues with the layer break,which Nero7 was designed to solve that issue. For DL backups: Just like laddyboy posted. Rip with dvd decrypter in Mode ISO read to harddrive,remember where those files go and open up ImgBurn. Find the movie,find the mds folder-not the ISO folder,open,set burn speed and burn away. If it's got the problematic encryption like sony,columbia,disney,pixar-that's where anydvd comes in. It's a background ripper,updated regularly,and no extra step is involved. Dvd-43 and anydvd clash,so beware of having both programs on your pc. Make sure you got at least 9 gbs of free space to rip that dvd to your harddrive or you will crash. Power calibration error usually means you got some bad media or burner is dying.Since it's On the Fly,that layer break may be causing the error. I do quite a few OTF for single layer backups,but never tried Dl backups that way.Very risky!
Hey guys, thanks for all of your posts. Just wasted my 15th dual layer disc. First I should say the reason I'm using TDK is because this problem originally started while I was using Verbatim (which used to work for me), I have 1 TDK disc left then I'll start buying Verbatim again but that won't fix the problem as like said I was using Verbatim when the problem originally started. First I pulled out all the plugs in my bruners and securely stuck everything back in the right place to make sure the power supply was fine. I used Control/Alt/Delete and saw that my Total Physical Memory is 490852. I shut down all programs running under my Username (I did not shut anything down running under Network Service or System as I don’t know about that stuff and I'm not sure if I should be shutting that kind of stuff down), so after I shut down everything under my Username it resulted in my Available Physical Memory going from approx 110000 to approx 181000. Does that seem OK ? Or do I need to shut more stuff down under Network Service and System ? I then avoided burning with Nero as it was suggested. So I saved a different DVD to my hard drive using File mode in DVD Decrypter and tried burning with ImageBurn following the steps "laddyboy" directed me towards : http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?s=2c5d5804e5523286100cd3feeb1cc28d&showtopic=1780 I got this burn fail message : I/0 Error ! Still getting Power Calibration Error with dvd decrypter and ImgBurn? Try to get some verbatim DL. Your burner may be bad or it just does not like ritek dual layer media. Test out a single layer backup and see if the burner works. I'm not sure about those nero links. I use the old oem discs of Nero 6.0.0.21b and Nero 6.0.0.14 and they work great for me,for single layer media only. Sometimes it needs a good removal,running of nero6 cleantool,and then load her up again-leaving out the incd packets. BTW: The serial # to your nero is still in your first post.Starts out like: 1A20-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx. Look for the small pencil/eraser icon on the orange bar in top/right corner of that first post.Use that to edit out that serial #. Someone can steal it.
Hi, Well a couple of weeks ago I got the errors using Verbatim with Decrypter, ImageBurn etc. I've been burning loads and loads of single layer DVD's and CD's with this burner and have had NO problems at all, it's just the dual layer discs that are not burning. I tried to buy some Verbatim discs today but the shop only hade the "-" ones, not "+", I believe "+" are much better to use. Like I previously said I was using Verbatim when these problems originally started so I don't really think changing to Verbatim is going to make this problem go away. Thinking back I think with the Verbatim discs they would appear tp burn successfully but when I'd put them in my drive they would spin for 2 minutes before they would read, then I'd skip through the tracks to see it worked and I'd get about half way through and everything would jam.
What movie are you trying to do? What encryption removal software are you using? New movies are the pits for nero and decrypter and imgburn. Laddyboy is right use Imgbnurn to do your DL discs.
Hi, Originally I was trying to copy a dual layer DVD+R as I trade a lot of music DVD's, obviously the DVD+R I was trying to copy should have just been a simple copy as it wouldn't have any copyright protection or anything like that on it. So when I couldn't get that to work I tried to copy another 2 dual layered DVD's that I knew I could give away to friends if the burned successfully, those 2 were original DVD's, -Ferris Bueller's Day Off- "1st edition" and -Lano & Woodley- "Goodbye". The last 2 DVD's I successfully copied before this problem came up were music DVD's -The Cure- "Trilogy" and -Depeche Mode- "Touring the Angel live in Milan".
I've been saving them to my hard drive with DVD Decrypter, in fact if I do so and shrink them to single layer size by taking some of the audio selections off etc using DVD Shrink they successfully burn to single layer with no errors, but this isn't any good to me as there is too much quality loss as I want to keep all of the audio selections etc When I successfully burned The Cure and Depeche Mode DVD's it worked fine by loading the files into Nero and burning.
Hi. I'm not sure what to tell you. If you can burn SL disks without problems and have tried all the different DL media and all the different burning programs, I'm ready to declare your burner incapable of burning DL media. However until you try a Verbatim with ImgBurn, I'm not quite willing to go that far yet--but getting there quite quickly. Seriously for all the money wasted on DL failures, you could have purchased a state of the art DL burner which is what I'd be considering I think. Have you always recorded DL on the fly? When the laser switches from LO to L1, it involves buffering, changing direction, and changing focus. On the fly recording is tricky even with single layer discs, but on the fly DL recording presupposes a perfect transition from the master and everything in synch on the recording side. I don't think the problem has anything to do with the discs. You had success in the past with both Verbatim and TDK. Try recording from the hard drive to eliminate the variable of a poor transition in the master causing problems for the copy.
I'm with joeryan, copying a DL copy on the fly not good even with an original The error occurs at the layer break. Have you ripped the disc to HDD and tried to copy that way as joeryan suggests?
If you read thru the thread, he stated the same results occurred for burning with both DVD Decrypter and ImgBurn, neither of which involve otf copying.
WOW, I just found a piece of paper where I had written down 3 months ago the details of the last 2 successful dual layer burns I made ! I had success back then with 2 different methods. The 2nd last time was with this same burner I have now back in November I copied "The Cure - Trilogy (2002 DVD)" which is a 2DVD set, they are both dual layer DVD's and I copied them by doing a direct DVD to DVD copy with Nero, at that time I didn't use anything to get around copyright because I hadn't downloaded any of that stuff yet. So that was a simple direct DVD to DVD copy ! The last time I did a successful dual layer copy was when I copied "Depeche Mode - Touring the Angel : Live in Milan (2006 DVD)". This time I believe Nero said it was copyright protected. I remember downloading different programs to try and get past the protection. I remember once I got past it I wasn't actually sure which one helped me, but I thought it was AnyDVD 6.0.88 (the red fox), I have noted at the time of that successful burn I had on my computer *Any DVD, *Clone DVD (I think #2)?, 2 types of DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink. Like I said I believe at the time of my successful burn I had AnyDVD 6.0.88 running. And this is how I burned the DVD. *opened Nero Express *selected DVD Video Files *selected the original DVD in the drive *then I selected the 2 files (audio ts and video ts) *I then selected add, and it save the original DVD to my hard drive. Unfortunetly when I went to copy the latest DVD I'm having trouble with AnyDVD had expired (passed the 21 day trial) and I downloaded the newer version of AnyDVD but I got a burn fail.
Continuing from the last post, after I saved the DVD to my hard drive I then chose " *select all *next *and successfully burned the DVD at x4.
OK, I have 1 TDK disc left and I just purchased 3 Verbatim DVD+R DL purple 2.4x speed (up to 8X speed with compatible high speed drives), these are the discs I originally had success with. This is going to put me up to 20 wasted DL discs if they fail. I'm not trying anymore after this... Any suggestions and what methods of burning I should try ?
I was just about to do a burn test by using a different original DVD again, I tried all 3 using the method I described above which has worked for me in the past using Nero Express, I tried to use one of the DVD's I tested with DVD Devrypter and ImageBurn but when I selected the files to add them off the DVD in the drive to my hard drive using the Nero method I describe above which gave me my last successfual DL burn all 3 different DVD's I just tried gave this message : The File 'G:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_0.VOB' could not be read. I read something about it being a file you just delete before you burn ? Why didn't I get this when I save it with DVD Decrypter ?
