Hello, I just called Toshiba nd they have no answer to my question. Will my Toshiba SD-3980 DVD player play Dual Layer Disks? Does anyone know if the re recordable Dual Layer Disks will record on a current recorder compatable with standard Dual Layer Disks? I did see an article that said they will be able to but can not confirm this. Thank you, Mrbear
Here is your player, and yes it does play +R DL's only. Also only plays +R period. I have an older Toshiba that only plays -R format but if I bitset to my +R DL's it plays the fine. http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers.php?DVDnameid=5776&Search=Search&#comments
Outstanding! I guess I did not spend enough time looking on that site. Just received another reply from Toshiba confirming what you just confirmed for me. But they only mentioned DL commercial disks. I am assuming my player can play non comercial DL disks as well. Yes, I understand that it only plays Plus disks as well. Ritek just replied to my email and said any recorder that supports DL disks can record on a re writable DL as well. Thank you very much, Mrbear
You are welcom, I am assuming since commercial DVD's are really classified as DVD-Roms that the info on media in the descriptor means that it does play +R DL burned media, but you never know players can be funny. My old Toshiba is my picky player so I test out all my burns on it, if they play on that they will play on anything. Happy burning
Thank you again! I was wondering what Commercial DL Layer disks are called. Now I know thanks to you. The only reason I have this model Toshiba player ist because they had a recal on my old Toshiba player. They sent me the new one for free. It is arather cheap player to begin with but it works. I am currently looking for a Hard Disk and DVD recorder that can record on DL Layer disks. I think I will most likely go for one of Lite on's new models. I really appreciate all your help. Mrbear
