I have dubbed hundreds of DVD's (DVD+R DL, Memorex) on a EZ Dub Drive using OEM software (one button activation). Well dumbed down for a beginner. Now for some reason I can not get a sucessful burn after 12-15 attempts.. all coasters.

    - I makes sure I have enough hard disk space.. 22GB. 3 times needed
    8 GB movie.
    - I've used my DVD Drive in laptop to Burn on the fly using 2 drives
    and only using RW drive.
    - bought another set of DVD+R DL disk
    - I'm running USB 2.0 , I removed all other periphals from Cardbus PC
adapter. Only burning drive on USB 2. I switched cables.
    - When I've used 2 drives to burn I have changed the cache file to
an external E Drive in case something was wrong with my C Drive.
    - i have adjusted write speed by trying to use Nero 6. I tried using
2 drives and one drive while C drive hold the file and transfer.
    - Ran RegCure to clean my registry. Thinking I may have probs with
    past software removal.
    - Removed ITunes thinking there may be a conflict.

My main problem has been ERROR READING DATA, ERROR READING FILE. This occurs either 50% or 90% from completion. I have also had calibration errors for the newest set of Memorex DVD+R DL being read by the RW Drive. I have had this drive for 1 to 1 1/2 years.

Please offer suggestions. Do I have a major prob with my hard drive ? Totally out of ideas for a beginner.

    Thanks

    Hi Burnless
The read errors you are getting sound like they are coming from the source disc not the hard drive. Check the back of the discs for any dirt, smudges, scratches etc. Clean it off with something non abrasive in a non circular motion.
Are the discs you are reading from copies or originals?
I would also recommend turning off 'burn on the fly'. That way if there's a read error you don't get a coaster. Burning on the fly does rips and burns at the same time so any little glitch and bam a coaster. Let the drive try to read through the error.

The power calibration error can be caused by the media and/or the drive needing a firmware update. Memorex DL media is newer to the market so if the firmware isn't up to date this may be causing some of your problems.
You can check LiteOn's site to see if there is a newer update - link.
Verbatim would be better DL media to use. It's been around much longer then the rest and is usually more supported by the different drives firmware.
