Whenever I try this with nero 6, I get a message that says my blank disc(dvd-r) is not large enough to copy the burned disc, but when I go back and use the original disc and try to dub it with same blank disc, it will start the copying process...what's the difference between the original disc and the burned disc that prevents me from making a copy of the previously burned disc?

Jonnymac, original store bought DVD movies can be larger than a blank dvd. They are called dvd 9's. The blank media are dvd 5's or 4.7gig. Actual size of data that can go on a blank 4.7gig dvd is about 4.3gig even though they call them 4.7gig. So to copy a movie from a dvd 9 which holds over 8gig you need a program like DVDshrink which allows you to edit and remove menus, trailers, all extras and compress the movie to fit the blank. DVD shrink is a free download and the guides all can be found on this site. DVDShrink also removes the copy guard. Jerry

what process are you using besides nero 6. Are you putting an image on your hard drive and then trying to burn it or just burn it on the fly (disc to disc). sometimes the burning programs will like to add things to burns that will change the size parameters of what fits. the copy is not made with xcopy i presume.

When you go to the original and make a copy, are you using nero and copying on the fly? Is this disc not encrypted or a dvd-9?

When I make a copy of a copy from a dvd-r, I select all the files on the dvd and copy them onto a folder on my hard drive. I then burn them with my burning program (recordnow in my case) without any difficulty.

Ok this is what I did...I had 3 blank dvd-r discs, all 3 were of the same brand...I bought a live concert cd from one of the chainstores...I used nero 6 to dub it, disc to disc..also it had no copyright protection on it and the copying was successful. Then I tried to do same thing again using the burned dvd-r as the source, but when I hit the burn button it said my blank disc was not large enough to copy the disc...how can that be?

when you say dubbed, what do you mean? do you mean duplicate?

the easiest way to make multiple copies of a dvd is as follows:

    1. copy files on dvd to hard drive (may require ripping program or compression)

    2. burn with burning program

    3. for each extra copy repeat step 2.

Don't do the on the fly stuff, it is not as reliable and nero may be adding stuff to the dvd. Check out the files on the dvd and the copy and see if there are any extra files.

Hi jonnymac, I never heard of that happening. If its already a copy on a dvd 5 type disc, it should fit on another blank. I suggest downloading DVDshrink if you don't have it. Open shrink program then open the disc that has your copy on it. After it checks the disc, it will show you a bar graph on top right with size information. DVD shrink is for decrypting copy guard off movies, but in this case, I would use it to see what is happening size wise on your copy. Jerry
