I have migrated in the past several years from VHS to Hi8 to Digital8, and now I'm looking at the next step - MiniDV or MiniDVD.

My typical work flow involves capture - import to avi - edit with Premiere - save to avi - burn to DVD.

So, a camcorder that recorded directly to DVD would save me a step.

    A few questions:

Is the picture quality of MiniDV superior to that of "straight-to-DVD" camcorders?

Since I occasionally video weddings, dramas, ceremonies, etc., I may have to swap media at some point. How long does it take to change DVD's (Do you have to format before resuming the recording on the second DVD?)

Time limit - I believe the MiniDV provides 60 minutes at max quality, and the MiniDVD provides 30 minutes?

    Thanks,
    Rick.

I guess you do a lot of editing if you're a Premiere user.
In that case I would not even consider to go for a DVD camcorder. First, the quality isn't as good as miniDV, but more important, you will experience problems editing and your final result will be recompreseed mpeg-2 to mpeg-2 which even lowers the quality...
