Ok here is a method i would like to use to take my raw dv footage to a dvd. I use DIVO and get the 20 or so gigs in an .avi file. Here is my question. Does it matter if i convert the file to MPEG-2 or just a TS-Video directory as in using DivxtoDvd? Then i can use simple authoring software to create a menu...and burn. Can someone please explain the difference between .vob, .bup files as compared to an MPEG-2?
Whatever you do: video on a DVD is always MPEG-2. You can convert your material to MPEG-2. Even if you import your AVI directly into a DVD authoring progam, it will encode it to MPEG-2 with a built-in encoder. Quality of built-in encoders is usualy not as good as stand-alone encoders and offer less settings to determine quality. .VOB files are files on a DVD that contain the actual streams audio and video streams. .BUP files are backup files for the .IFO files which contain the navigational data.
